Ares Capital to Acquire American Capital for $3.4B
Ares Capital Corp. headquartered in New York City, has entered into an agreement to acquire American Capital Ltd. for $3.4 billion. The agreement excludes American Capital Mortgage Management LLC, which is being sold to American Capital Agency Corp. for $562 million.
Ares Capital, which provides financing to U.S. middle-market companies, venture capital backed businesses and power generation projects, will manage the combined company. The transaction is anticipated to close within the next 12 months.
American Capital Ltd. is a publicly traded private equity firm and global asset manager. The company originates, underwrites and manages investments in middle-market private equity, leveraged finance, real estate and structured products.
