Apple’s Next-Generation $80M Flagship Store Opening in Chicago
Cupertino, CA-based Apple debuted Apple Michigan Avenue, its $80-million flagship store in Chicago that seeks to reinvigorate the Chicago River and the Riverwalk. The two-story, 32-foot tall glass structure is located on a site off Pioneer Court where the Chicago River meets Michigan Avenue.
Apple’s Angela Ahrendts says, “Apple Michigan Avenue exemplifies our new vision, where everyone is welcome to experience all of our incredible products, services and inspiring educational programs in the heart of their city.”
The roughly 25,000-square-foot store with 250 employees is expected to shift Michigan Avenue’s retail landscape and change shopping traffic patterns. Two granite staircases descend on the sides of a transparent store onto a lower level along the riverfront, where the majority of retail space is found. The site includes a public outdoor courtyard with wood- and leather-cube seating, and a huge flatscreen where Apple plans to host community gatherings.
