Apple’s Fourth U.S. Campus Search Requirements

Apple’s search for a location for its fourth U.S. campus is shaping up to be a markedly different process than the sweepstakes unfolding for Amazon’s HQ2. In fact, Apple didn’t issue any clear guidelines outlining its market requirements when it announced plans earlier this year to add a new corporate facility, like Amazon did.

Still, Bloomberg reports Apple will likely be seeking many similar prerequisites as Amazon, including an educated workforce, tax incentives and accessible transportation.

Apple’s quest for human talent is anticipated to focus more on markets with plenty of people with bachelor’s degrees, rather than advanced engineering degrees. That’s because the company is expected to recruit heavily for technical support roles, versus those developing products or in operations.

Apple is also expected to seek tax incentives in exchange for market investment.

Transportation needs encompass a nearby airport essential to moving Apple employees between the expanding network of U.S. offices.

Currently, Apple’s U.S. operations include
– two major campuses in Cupertino, and a major presence in Austin
– Call centers in Austin and Elk Grove, CA
– Multiple data U.S. centers and a command center in Arizona
– Four repair centers
– Smaller development offices in locales like Los Angeles, Cambridge, MA, Seattle, Denver, New York, Washington and Miami
