Apple is Learning from Starbucks
While Apple Pay initially exploded, its growth is nowhere near that of the Starbucks mobile app, which reports that 20 percent of all transactions across the U.S. are mobile.
Starting now, Apple will be partnering with the coffee giant across 7,500 locations to roll out Apple Pay as a method of payment. Currently, Starbucks offers “stars” as a part of their loyalty program that add up to earn a free beverage or meal, which are easily tracked on the mobile app.
With Apple’s partnership, customers will be able to earn stars for purchases outside of the coffee chain, and redeem their free gift back at Starbucks. Clearly, Apple has taken a bite out of Starbucks’ wildly successful strategy.
