Apple Commits to 100% Carbon Neutral Supply Chain, Products by 2030
Apple unveiled a 10-year plan to remove carbon emissions from its entire business, manufacturing supply chain, and product life cycle by 2030. The Cupertino, CA-based consumer tech products company says this new commitment means that by 2030, every Apple device sold will have net zero climate impact.
Apple’s Tim Cook says, “Businesses have a profound opportunity to help build a more sustainable future, one born of our common concern for the planet we share.”
Apple plans to reduce emissions by 75% by 2030 while developing innovative carbon removal solutions for the balance of its comprehensive footprint. The product manufacturing process accounts for 74% of Apple’s overall carbon emissions.
To cut emissions out of that process, Apple said it will help set up a $100 million “U.S.-China Green Fund” to provide capital investments to suppliers for energy efficiency projects. It will continue to work with suppliers to reduce emissions by using recycled materials and low carbon product design.
Additionally, it will continue to identify new ways to lower energy use at its offices and facilities, as well as supply chain partners, incorporate solar and renewable energy, and invest in forests and other nature-based solutions.
