Apple Begins Building $1B, 3M-SF Campus

Close to one year after announcing its national expansion plans,  Apple began construction on its $1-billion, 133-acre campus in northwest Austin, near its current campus on Parmer Lane. Upon its completion in 2022, the new facility will house 5,000 employees, with the capacity to grow to 15,000.

In addition to the buildings, the campus will feature a 50-acre nature and wildlife preserve that will be open to the public. The Cupertino, CA-headquartered company is also partnering with Bartlett Tree Experts of Austin to both preserve and increase the number of native trees on the property. Thousands of trees, spanning more than 20 native Texas varieties are planned for the campus.

And, similar to all Apple facilities, the Austin campus will operate on 100% renewable energy, including use of solar power generated on site.

In related news, Apple is manufacturing, and soon will distribute, the all-new Mac Pro from a nearby production facility.
