Apartment Building Converted from Peace Corps HQ Office Opens
The Elle, a 163-unit apartment building in downtown Washington, D.C., that was previously the Peace Corps headquarters, recently celebrated the property’s grand opening.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony with Mayor Muriel Bowser, district leaders, and the building owners from Willco marked the project’s debut as a highly anticipated office-to-residential conversion. Located at 1111 20th St. NW in the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID), the Elle apartments feature 163 apartments that replace the former office building.
“The transformation of Downtown DC is focused on people. We’re changing spaces and filling spaces with one big goal: to bring more people downtown,” said Mayor Bowser. “And that’s what this conversion is helping us do.”
The property has a rooftop pool, a fitness center and yoga studio, a dog spa, a community room, and other amenities. Several other office-to-residential conversions are in the works through the District, and many more are planned for the Golden Triangle in the future.
