Another Restaurant on the Lower East Side

Entrepreneurs keep opening restaurants, despite worries about rising rents for space and wages for workers.

Beginning August 2017, seafood restaurant Chamusca will begin serving a sustainable and seasonal menu from the tiny, 800-square-foot space at 92 Rivington, a seven-story residential and retail building owned by Thor Equities on Manhattan’s Lower East Side.

Built in 1900, the five-story walk-up building also includes a second small retail space, and seven rental apartments.

“With Ludlow House, Ace Hotel and other trendy hotspots opening on the Lower East Side, the neighborhood is continuing to flourish as a prime destination to live, work and play,” said Joseph Sitt, CEO of Thor Equities.

Earlier this year, the announcement that top restaurant Annisa will close in the East Village sparked a series of articles concerned with the pressures on restaurants.
