Anna’s Linens Files for Bankruptcy

Costa Mesa-based Anna’s Linens has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy and will close eight stores across the country this month, including one in San Francisco and on in San Ysidro.

The 261-unit chain has liabilities that are near $500 million, according to court-filed documents. Executives at the home-goods retailer are in sales talks with New York City-based asset-management firm DW Partners LP.

The company hired Hilco Merchant Resources and Gordon Brothers Retail Partners to help with store closings in case a sale falls through.

This is not the first time the retailer has filed for bankruptcy; it also went through the process in 1993 and emerged from it in 1994.
