Anaheim Sets New Tourism Record, Again
Anaheim’s tourism record fell again in 2017, in part as a result of a larger convention center, as well as its two popular theme parks, Disneyland and California Adventure Park. Visit Anaheim reported 24.2 million visitors to the city in 2017, a 5% increase over the previous year, and a 30% increase over 2012’s mark. This year marks the fifth straight record-setting year for visits to the SoCal destination, according to Anaheim’s official tourism organization.
Those visits boosted spending by 6.2% to $8.62 billion in 2017, compared to the previous year. Spending was spread across a number of sectors, including hotel accommodations, which experienced a 1.7% increase in visitors.
New development projects underway are anticipated to sustain tourism for years to come, including Disneyland’s Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, updates to Downtown Disney, Pixar Pier (opening June 23 at Disney California Adventure, pictured above), and two hotels. A 20,000-square-foot expansion of the 1.8-million-square-foot convention center also helped.
