An Answer to the Midlothian Mystery: It’s Google

In June 2018, it was announced that the Midlothian, TX City Council was offering property tax abatements to Sharka LLC, an unknown company, for development of a data center at the RailPort Business Park. The identity of Sharka LLC has been revealed to be none other than Google Inc. Google acquired property on U.S. 67, with plans to build a $500 million center that could create 40 jobs.

“Google has purchased property in Midlothian . . . and while we do not have a confirmed timeline for development for the site, we want to ensure that we have the option to further grow should our business demand it,” said Google’s Andrew Silvestri.

To spur that growth, the Midlothian City Council approved a 100% personal property tax abatement and 85% improvement tax abatement over 10 years for the center’s development. Midlothian is approximately 25 miles southwest of downtown Dallas.
