Amtrak Completes New Baltimore Platform
Amtrak has inaugurated a newly constructed boarding platform at Baltimore Penn Station, part of its $150 million redevelopment project for the station. The new platform, scheduled to begin serving trains in spring, aims to ease rail congestion and reduce delays on the Northeast Corridor. The project includes two new high-level platforms to support the expansion of high-speed train service.
“This new platform, and eventually the broader Penn Station renovation, will breathe new life into the storied train station and provide much-needed upgrades for the convenience, safety, and enjoyment of everyone passing through the station,” said Baltimore Mayor Brandon M. Scott.
Baltimore Penn Station is the eighth busiest station on the Amtrak network, with more than three million Amtrak and MARC passengers passing through annually. Over the past year, Amtrak ridership in Baltimore increased by 29%, surpassing the 24% growth in Amtrak ridership nationwide.
