AMC to Close Uptown Theater in Cleveland Park
AMC Theatres has revealed plans to shutter the iconic Uptown Theater in Washington D.C.’s Cleveland Park. The famed theater will close for good on Thursday, according to various reports.
The operators lease on the space ends March 31 and it is believed that the closure did not have to do with operational losses due to COVID-19. AMC has operated the cinema since 2005.
The 800-seat theater was built by Warner Bros. in 1936, and has hosted the premiere of a number of classic films such as “2001: A Space Odyssey” in 1968, and “Jurassic Park” in 1993. The cinema was also one of the first theaters to screen “Star Wars” in 1977.
