AMC Theatres to Buy Carmike Cinemas for $1.1B

AMC Theatres, headquartered in Leawood, KS, has agreed to purchase all outstanding shares of Columbus, GA-based Carmike Cinemas Inc. The all-cash transaction of $30 per share is valued at approximately $1.1 billion, including assumption of debt.

AMC currently has 5,426 screens at 387 theaters, in many top markets throughout the United States. Carmike owns 2,954 screens at 276 theaters, mainly in mid-size, non-urban communities.

The merger will lead to more than 600 theater locations in 45 states nationwide, including the District of Columbia, creating the largest chain of movie theaters in the world.

The deal is expected to close by the end of this year.
