Amazon’s Brick-and-Mortar Stores Benefit Prime Members Too
As e-commerce giant Amazon continues to expand its brick-and-mortar retail locations, its online pricing tactics will be visible in stores too.
Prime members, those who are willing to subscribe for an annual fee of $99, will receive the same prices for products in Amazon locations as they do online. On the other hand, non-members will pay the list price for books in the store. Customers must scan items to see the price tag, as they are not listed on each product.
The pricing differential is being tested to see if it prompts in-store purchases and/or promotes more people to sign up as Prime members.
Amazon’s bookstores are currently opened in San Diego, Seattle, and Portland. Chicago and Boston are up next on the list, as well as Amazon grocery stores.
