Amazon Web Services Lays Off Hundreds of Employees
Amazon announced the company is cutting hundreds of jobs in its cloud computing unit AWS as part of a strategic shift. The move to cut jobs also comes as the company is moving away from its “Just Walk Out” model at its Amazon Fresh grocery stores.
The company will trim several hundred staff jobs with teams that overlook technology for physical stores, AWS sales, marketing and global service organization. Many of these cuts are related to business changes in AWS training and certification programs as well as sales operations. The tech giant said it was also making cuts elsewhere so it can invest in other business priorities.
The cuts come after mass layoffs at the company that began in 2022 and continued throughout 2023, with more than 27,000 jobs cut. “These decisions are difficult but necessary as we continue to invest, hire, and optimize resources to deliver innovation for our customers,” said Amazon spokesperson Duncan Neasham in a statement.
