Amazon Takes Down University Square

Seattle-based Amazon leased the entire 214,000-square-foot University Square office project in East Palo Alto, CA. The speculative development was completed in Q4 2016 by the Sobrato Organization.

The e-commerce giant plans to add 1,300 jobs at the 2100 University Ave. site, representing a 50% jobs increase in East Palo Alto. Amazon already occupies 80,000 square feet at University Circle.

The four-story, brick exterior University Square is a creative office project designed as a modern interpretation of a converted warehouse space, similar to spaces found in San Francisco’s SoMa district. An adjacent site could accommodate another 250,000-square-foot expansion.

Two connecting buildings fronting Donohue Street feature 55,000-square-foot floor plates, and include a 5,515-square-foot roof deck that offers views of the foothills and San Francisco Bay. The LEED Gold equivalent-designed building has a naturally-lit 4,000-square-foot central atrium, as well as a large, ground-floor collaboration or “all hands” gathering area.
