Amazon Ships One Billion Holiday Packages
Amazon completed more than one billion shipments during the 2016 holiday season. The Inland Empire played a significant role in that achievement, primarily because the region has the largest concentration of Amazon fulfillment centers in the state.
This year, new facilities were added in Eastvale and San Bernardino, joining others in Rialto, Redlands and Moreno Valley. Amazon employs 15,000 full-time people in the Inland Empire, including 2,000 each at the two new centers, and 5,500 in Moreno Valley. During the holidays, the seasonal workforce swelled to more than 8,000.
Amazon also added hundreds of orange-hued wheeled robots at the new facilities to pick products for shipment. The giant online retailer has deployed more than 45,000 robots in 20-plus fulfillment centers worldwide.
