Amazon Scouts Take a Second Look at the 78

Amazon’s site selection team for its second North American headquarters campus was back in town last month, the Chicago Tribune reported Thursday. The team reportedly took a closer look at Related Midwest’s 62-acre site for its planned The 78 mixed-use development.

It’s the second known visit the selection team has made to the Related Midwest site. The Tribune reported that it’s not clear whether the team has made return visits to any of the other possible HQ2 sites—in Chicago or elsewhere—they visited in March.

Assuming the project receives City Council approval, Related Midwest plans about 13 million square feet of development, including skyscrapers up to 950 feet tall. The 78 is likely to include a mix of office, residential, hotel, retail and entertainment space.

As for HQ2, the Tribune noted that although Chicago is on Amazon’s shortlist, the front-runner is believed to be the Washington, D.C. metro area.
