Amazon Plans Data Center Expansion in Oregon

Amazon is planning a significant expansion of its data center operations on a 400-acre site in Arlington, Oregon.

The tech giant is adding to its existing facilities in neighboring counties, reported the Oregon Live. Amazon recently purchased 376 acres of land for $10 million, with an additional 30 acres acquired from the Port of Arlington for $3 million. The company will be adding to its existing footprint in eastern Oregon, where it already operates major data centers.

Located east of Portland along the Columbia River, the land acquisition is the latest part of Amazon’s ongoing developments for the data center industry in the Pacific Northwest. In 2024, Amazon made a push to go nuclear, with the e-commerce giant partnering with several energy companies to develop small modular nuclear reactors as part of Amazon’s goal of net zero carbon emissions by 2040.
