Amazon Plans $80M Packaging Center Near Indianapolis
Amazon.com Inc. signed a lease for a new $80-million distribution facility on a 75-acre site along Allen Road in Greenwood, IN, 15 miles south of Indianapolis. The Seattle-based e-commerce giant calls the 615,440-square-foot building a “Receive Center,” which is used to package incoming products for shipment to fulfillment centers.
Amazon expects to spend $45 million on the building and another $35 million to outfit the the facility with conveyor systems, parcel sorters, racking systems, material-handling equipment and IT scanning and picking equipment.
Indianapolis-based Scannell Properties will develop and own the build-to-suit facility. The site between Graham and Collins roads, near Interstate 65, could be operational by next summer and running with full employment of 1,250 workers by the end of 2021.
