Since SAT3's open Amazon to add workers

Amazon New Fulfillment Center Ready to Add More Workers

It’s only been open a few months but Amazon’s new fulfillment center is running at full capacity and the company believes it can add on more workers. While the company places a huge emphasis on robots to perform many of the tasks, the site still hires 1,700 people. The company has plans to add more warehouse space and add an additional 1,500 jobs.

The building, called SAT3, has 3.6 million square feet on five-and-a-half floors. It opened in March and is among the largest Amazon Fulfillment Centers in Texas.

SAT3 is known as an Amazon Robotics Sortable fulfillment center, or ARS. Unlike traditional non-sortable centers, where associates pick, pack and ship bulkier, larger-sized items, SAT3 utilizes a combination of robotics and associates to pick, package and ship customer orders. Over 2 million items depart the facility.

The San Antonio Business Journal reports since 2010, Amazon has created more than 43,000 jobs in Texas and invested more than $16.9 billion across the state.
