Amazon in Talks for New York Expansion
Three months after pulling the plug on plans for a major headquarters presence in Long Island City, Amazon reportedly plans to grow its footprint in New York City. The New York Post reported that Amazon is in discussions to take at least 100,000 square feet at one of the two Manhattan West office towers Brookfield has under development.
The Manhattan West mixed-use development is located near Brookfield‘s 5 Manhattan West, a redeveloped office property where Amazon already has offices. The E-commerce giant employs 5,000 people locally.
Citing unnamed sources, the Post reported that Amazon was considering space on the top floors of 2 Manhattan West. However, that tower won’t be ready for occupancy until 2022, while 1 Manhattan West will open this fall.
Amazon is also considering space at Vornado Realty Trust’s upcoming redevelopment of the James A. Farley Post Office, across the street from Penn Station, the Post reported.
