Amazon HQ2 Sweepstakes Draws 238 Bids
Amazon.com Inc. received 238 bids from cities and regions across the country who want the tech giant to build a second headquarters in their market. Proposals for Amazon’s $5-billion HQ2 arrived from 54 states, provinces, districts and territories. There were only seven states not represented on the list of suitors for the Seattle-based company’s attention.
Among the cities that made their bids public were New York, Boston, Atlanta, Nashville, and Austin. Unexpected proposals were submitted by Puerto Rico, as well as several locations in Mexico and Canada.
The states that didn’t bid included North and South Dakota, Wyoming, Vermont, Montana and Hawaii, as well as Arkansas, home to Amazon’s biggest competitor, Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
Amazon indicated it plans to make a decision on the new location next year.
