Amazon HQ2 Remains on Track for 2023 Delivery

Construction of the first Amazon.com HQ2 towers in Arlington, VA remains on schedule, the Washington Business Journal reported. However, the planning process for the green space around them may slow, as the spread of the novel coronavirus forces public meeting cancellations.

Clark Construction, lead contractor on Amazon’s first 2.1-million-square-foot office buildings, said work at Metropolitan Park in Pentagon City is advancing with added coronavirus safety measures.

“We are continually monitoring new developments and will continue to operate in accordance with guidance from government and public health officials,” a Clark spokesperson told the Business Journal.

Amazon expects to open its first towers, which will include 67,000 square feet of retail, in early 2023.

However, a public meeting scheduled for April 2 on the HQ2-adjacent park space has been postponed. Marco Rivero, with Arlington’s parks and recreation department, said Arlington County has sought the deferral of nonessential meetings.
