Amazon Hiring 100,000 Workers to Meet ‘Surge in Demand’

Amazon plans to hire 100,000 new workers at facilities across the U.S. as a result of consumers using online shopping for supplies during the COVID-19 outbreak. Warehouse and delivery service positions include both full- and part-time jobs that the company noted in a blog post will help “to meet the surge in demand” as people stay home.

Amazon’s Dave Clark wrote, “Getting a priority item to your doorstep is vital as communities practice social-distancing, particularly for the elderly and others with underlying health issues. We are seeing a significant increase in demand, which means our labor needs are unprecedented for this time of year.”

Amazon will be adding an additional $2 per hour in the U.S. through April, £2 per hour in the UK, and roughly €2 per hour in many EU countries, representing an investment of more than $350 million in increased compensation for hourly employees across the U.S., Europe, and Canada.
