Amazon Go Undergoing Testing
Amazon has built its first convenience store, dubbed Amazon Go, at Seventh Avenue and Blanchard Street in Seattle. The 1,800-square-foot store is currently open to Amazon employees participating in a testing program. The location is slated for an early 2017 public opening.
The store offers ready-to-eat meals and snacks prepared by on-site chefs and local bakeries, along with bread and milk, as well as luxury cheeses and chocolates. Shoppers would call up the Amazon Go app, hold the smart phone to a scanner, select products, and walk out. Amazon would then charge through the app after the shopper leaves the store. There would be no lines to go through, or registers to ring up the purchases.
