Amazon Commits to 711K-SF Space in Lakeland
Amazon is adding another massive distribution center in Polk County, the Tampa Bay Business Journal reported. The e-tailer is leasing the 711,000-square-foot Dragstrip Logistics Center in Lakeland from Ackerman & Co., according to the Business Journal.
It will be Amazon’s third mega-warehouse in Polk County, along with a million-square-foot fulfillment center in Lakeland that opened in 2015 and one that will soon open in Auburndale. The company unveiled an air cargo facility at Lakeland Linder Airport in July.
The site is 1.3 miles northeast of the interchange of Interstate 4 and SR 33, an area that has become a hub of logistics activity. Other warehouse tenants nearby include Quaker Oats, PepsiCo, Havertys and HD Supply, according to Ackerman’s promotional material.
With COVID-19 accelerating demand for e-commerce, Amazon has been in expansion mode across the U.S. Last week, for example, the company announced a 1.1-million-square-foot fulfillment center in Forney, TX.
