Amazon Commits to 625K SF in El Paso

Amazon plans to open its first fulfillment center in El Paso. The new fulfillment center, anticipated to launch in 2021, will span 625,000 square feet and employ more than 700. It’s not immediately clear who will develop it.

“Three years ago we held a press conference about our plans to try and get Amazon to El Paso,” said El Paso Mayor Dee Margo. “Today my administration delivered. I’m so proud of the teamwork and collaboration between Amazon, the city, the county and Borderplex Alliance. We’re making tremendous strides together, and our city has a bright future.”

In the new fulfillment center, employees will work alongside robotics to pick, pack and ship small items to customers such as books, electronics and toys.

“Amazon is a transcendent company, and this is one of the most significant economic development projects for our region in decades,” said Jon Barela, CEO of Borderplex Alliance.
