Amazon Comes to LIC—With Delivery Station
Amazon will open a delivery station on 21st Street in Long Island City, the neighborhood where it once planned to build a second headquarters. The LIC Post reported that the retailing giant will occupy a 20,000-square-foot space at 38-50 21st Str., formerly occupied by the now-shuttered Green Apple Supermarket.
A last-mile facility, the 21st Street site will provide Amazon with easy access to Queens, Manhattan, Brooklyn and the Bronx. The east side entrance of the Queensboro Bridge is about half a mile away.
“We are excited to continue to invest in the state of New York with a new delivery station in Long Island City that will provide efficient delivery for customers, and create job opportunities for the talented workforce,” an Amazon spokesperson said told the LIC Post.
The spokesperson said the company has yet to determine how many people it would hire at the new facility.
