Amazon Closing Fresh Pickup Location in Ballard

Amazon Closing Fresh Pickup Location in Ballard

Amazon continues to pull back on brick and mortar stores, as the company has announced the closure of its Amazon Fresh Pickup location in Seattle’s Ballard neighborhood. Geekwire first reported that the store, which had its grand opening in May of 2017, will be shuttered on January 31st.

The facility introduced a new shopping concept, serving as a drive-up grocery pick-up service for Amazon Prime members, and also functioned as a drop-off location for package returns. The site, along with the still-open location at the Starbucks Center in Seattle’s SoDo neighborhood, were the only Amazon Fresh Pickup stores in the U.S.

Amazon was pushing into broader retail in 2017, and the concept turned out to be very popular during the pandemic as shoppers avoided crowded stores, but the company has changed its brick & mortar retail stance recently. In a statement, Amazon said it will further focus on other nearby Amazon Fresh grocery stores, and all affected employees have been offered other opportunities.
