Amazon Claims Former Macy’s Store at Redmond Town Center
Amazon leased the 111,000-square-foot former Macy’s department store at Redmond Town Center, which had closed last year. The former retail space will be converted into an office for more than 600 engineers and team members involved in database services with a 2021 move-in expected.
The site will house the first AWS location on the Eastside, and is near a Link Light Rail station slated to open in 2024. It is Amazon’s second Redmond office, following Project Kuiper basing its satellite business nearby.
Amazon’s John Schoettler, VP of global real estate and facilities, says, “Our new Redmond office is part of our plan to continue growing and creating jobs in the Puget Sound region. In addition to Redmond’s strong existing talent pool and close access to our Seattle and Bellevue locations, these new facilities will also provide more flexible work options for employees, allowing us to continue our sustainable growth in the region for years to come.”
