Amazon Adds Last-Mile Facility on Staten Island

Amazon is expanding its presence at Matrix Global Logistics Park on Staten Island’s West Shore. The e-commerce giant has leased a 450,000-square-foot warehouse adjacent to its existing 855,000-square-foot fulfillment center, which opened in 2017.

The Staten Island Advance reported that the new facility will be dedicated to last-mile delivery logistics for a specific geographic area, probably within the five boroughs. The existing fulfillment center employs both live workers and robots to pack orders that are bound for a variety of geographic areas.

“We are excited to increase our investment in Staten Island with a new delivery station to speed up delivery times for customers, and provide hundreds of job opportunities for the talented local workforce,” an Amazon spokesperson told Connect Media.

The new Amazon facility is expected to open sometime in 2020. Matrix Development Group’s Matrix Global Logistics Park is also home to a 975,000-square-foot Ikea warehouse.
