Amazon Adding 30,000 Part-Time Jobs
Amazon laid out plans to create 30,000 part-time positions in the U.S. over the next year, as a result of its customer base nearly doubling, combined with the addition of dozens of new warehouses across the country. Included in that number of new hires are roughly 5,000 home-based positions in the retail giant’s virtual customer service department.
Earlier this year, Amazon announced it planned to add 100,000 full-time jobs over the coming 18 months. The company needs workers for facilities being built closer to where customers have products delivered. That’s a strategy which helps reduce shipping costs, cut delivery times and gives the company the option of delivering packages itself.
Last year, Amazon’s world-wide workforce grew 48%, to 341,400. The company has nearly 40,000 part-time U.S. employees.
