Amazon Acquires Former Register Facility for $63M, Plans Last-Mile Facility
Amazon acquired the former Orange County Register newspaper printing facility in Santa Ana from Caribou Industries for $63.2 million. The Seattle-based online retailer plans to demolish the 63-year-old facility and build a 112,485-square-foot “last mile” distribution center.
The 16.5-acre site at 625 N. Grand Ave. is situated to serve Orange County along the 5 Freeway near the Orange Crush. Plans filed with the city include a one-story warehouse “delivery station building,” as an integral piece to Amazon’s expansion plans in SoCal.
The new Amazon facility would be built on a vacant parcel situated behind a five-story, 185,000-square-foot office building that formerly housed the Register’s newsroom and advertising offices, which is being marketed for sale or lease as 625IVE.
Lee & Associates’ Marshal Vogt, Matt Orville, and Jaimeson Hearne along with Jack Haley negotiated the sale. The sale price is one of the largest Orange County transactions of 2020.
