Aldi Opening Three Orlando-Area Stores
Aldi is preparing to open new stores in the Orlando area, stores that will go in where Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarkets used to be. Last year, the company bought the two chains and will spend $9 billion throughout the country converting the stores to the Aldi brand. 13 of the new stores will be in Florida, including converted stores in Deltona, Melbourne and Orlando, all former Winn-Dixie buildings.
Aldi’s, which touts its low-cost concept, says its footprint is typically smaller than most supermarket layouts. The Orlando Business Journal says the company will use what it needs and lease out the remainder of the property.
Each store will employ 15 to 20 people.
Aldi began converting Winn-Dixie and Harveys Supermarket stores last summer. Nine conversions are already underway or scheduled to begin in the coming months.
The company opened nearly 120 stores last year to bring its total count to over 2,400 locations in 38 states.
