Alamo Drafthouse to Expand Bay Area Footprint with Two New Theatres
(Updated with additional information)
Alamo Drafthouse Cinema formally announced Tuesday that it would take over two vacant Bay Area theatres formerly occupied by Showplace ICON. Alamo Drafthouse Mountain View in Mountain View and Alamo Drafthouse Westfield Valley Fair in Santa Clara will join the existing Alamo Drafthouse New Mission in San Francisco, which opened in 2015.
For the Mountain View location, landlord Brookfield Properties was represented by Josh Shumsky, Matt Sweeney and Megan McArthur at the Econic Company. JLL’s Laura Tinetti and Ken Shishido represented Alamo Drafthouse in both leases. The San Francisco Business Times reported in August that the chain was near agreements to operate the shuttered locations.
Both complexes will feature 10 screens. The Austin-based cinema-eatery plans to have the theaters open to guests by Summer 2025. Updates will include reclining leather seats, a revamped culinary and bar experience, and immersive themes unique to each location.
“By 2025 we’ll have been in San Francisco for 10 years, and this feels like the perfect way to celebrate the decade of support and enthusiasm we’ve received from Bay Area film fans,” said Alamo Drafthouse CEO Michael Kusterman.
