Alameda Theater Restoration Could Surpass $26M
San Antonio stakeholders have put forward a plan to invest approximately $26.4 million to restore the Alameda Theater on West Houston Street. One of the experts tapped for planning is Michael Kaiser with the DeVos Institute of Arts Management at University of Maryland, who has presented recommendations to the city council. One such recommendation is to expand the theater’s seating capacity and its stage. Kaiser also suggested that a new entity be created to manage and program the theater.
Texas Public Radio has been pursuing space in a stagehouse structure added to the movie theater in 2014. “We’re looking for about 24,000 square feet of space, and it’s my understanding that the stagehouse building would allow for at least that,” TPR’s Joyce Slocum told the San Antonio Business Journal.
