Airport Exceeds 10M-Passenger Milestone

San Antonio officials announced that more than 10 million people flew into and out of the San Antonio International Airport during 2018. The total surpasses the previous year’s number — also a record — by nearly one million passengers.

City officials said that the growth has occurred through efforts to improve both the airport infrastructure and offered routes. In 2018, a new, seven-story consolidated rental car facility opened. Additionally, new direct flights and markets were added, as were a new carrier (Sun Country), and groundbreaking on a $25 million hangar hub.

City Manager Sheryl Sculley indicated that many factors boosted the passenger total, including the increase in nonstop destinations in 2018. That “translates into seat capacity of 9% overall, which helps business and leisure travelers get to where they need to be faster,” said Sculley, who is stepping down from her position by mid-2019.
