Airlines Sign Off on Revised O’Hare Terminal Construction Timeline

The City of Chicago has reached an agreement with United Airlines and American Airlines to move forward with a revised Terminal Area Program (TAP) to modernize Chicago O’Hare International Airport. The new TAP timeline calls for phased construction of a Global Terminal while construction of the first of two satellite concourses occurs.

Originally, both satellite concourses were to be built first, while demolition of the existing Terminal 2 was underway. The Global Terminal will replace Terminal 2 and eliminate the need for transfers between Terminals 2 and 5.

“We look forward to prioritizing the O’Hare Global Terminal to bring benefits to the traveling public sooner, while providing thousands of jobs and contracting opportunities to Chicago,” Mayor Brandon Johnson said in a statement. He called the agreement “a major step forward in the growth of O’Hare – and the Chicago region – as a key hub for travelers from across the globe.”
