Airbnb Goes After Illegal Rentals

Airbnb is using a San Francisco law that bans short-term rentals under certain conditions to weed out suspicious listings. The company will investigate 671 rentals, including those that offer entire homes, as well landlords presenting more than one listing.
That’s roughly 12 percent of listings for entire homes and seven percent of all Airbnb offerings in The City. The company says over the past year, those listings accounted for 17 percent of total revenue in San Francisco.
Airbnb says it wants to address listings that impact long-term rental housing in the city, which critics say may be exacerbating San Francisco’s housing crisis.
