Airbnb Continues Robust California Growth
Airbnb hosts in California welcomed 40% more guests last year than in 2016. Los Angeles topped the list with 1.4 million guest arrivals, which eclipsed No. 2 San Diego by more than two and a half times, and was more than three times more than visited No. 3 San Francisco.
Los Angeles also claimed the top spot for host income with $320 million in 2017, followed by San Francisco ($147 million) and San Diego ($100 million). In California, Airbnb hosts earned more than $1.4 billion last year, renting to seven million guests, up from five million bookings in 2016.
Airbnb has reached agreements with 37 cities in California to collect and remit taxes on behalf of hosts. Interestingly, five of the top 10 cities in the state still do not have agreements with the home-sharing platform.
California is the top state for guest arrivals, followed by Florida and New York.
