AIA Prize for 195 Broadway
April 28, 2017
The spectacular redevelopment of the landmark lobby at 195 Broadway won one of the roughly one dozen Excelsior Awards for Public Architecture handed out each year by the American Institute of Architects New York.
“When we acquired the property in 2005, we felt we had a civic duty to fully restore that amazing space to its former grandeur, while also re-activating it for public use,” said David Levinson, chairman and CEO of L&L Holding Company.
It’s hard to walk the few blocks from Wall Street to City Hall without stopping to stare. Rehabilitation restored the bronze and alabaster chandeliers and massive Doric-style, Italian marble columns.
Nobu recently opened a flagship restaurant in part of the 50,000-square-foot space. An Anthropologie store will take another piece, while L&L is currently marketing the third and final retail space.
