Affordable Housing Project Breaks Ground on Former Amazon Site
Construction is underway on a 270-unit affordable housing development at the former Amazon headquarters in the Beacon Hill neighborhood of Seattle. According to the Puget Sound Business Journal, the Seattle Chinatown International District Preservation and Development Authority (SCIDpda) will develop the “North Lot” project along with Edge Developers.
The first phase, being called “Building A”, is a seven-story property adjacent to historic Pacific Tower, and will feature 160 rent-restricted apartments and a 10,000-square-foot child care center. The second phase, slated to begin construction in mid 2024, will be a seven-story building with 110 affordable units.
Seventy percent of the two-, three- and four-bedroom units will be offered to tenants with household incomes at 50% of the area median income and the remaining 30% to households at 60% AMI. Weber Thompson is the architect, Marpac Construction is the general contractor and JP Morgan Chase and Bellwether Enterprise provided the financing.
