AEW Inks 68K SF in Chicago with Silicon Valley-Based Startup
Upwork, the largest global freelancing website, plans to take 67,730 square feet of space at 525 West Van Buren, a 16-story office tower in Chicago’s West Loop. The nearly 520,00-square-foot Class A property is held by Boston-based AEW Capital Management, LP.
Cresa’s Allen Rogoway, Janna Luce and Eric Nolin represented the tenant. JLL’s Melissa Rubenstein and Gary Kostecki handled the deal on behalf of the landlord.
AEW purchased the 2002-era property in 2015 from a venture of New York-based Northwood Investors. The owner plans to transform the ground floor lobby with the addition of high-end finishes and installation of a floating stairwell to connect the lobby and mezzanine levels.
The Silicon Valley-based startup launched its Chicago presence in 2017, with plans to take advantage of the city’s growing tech scene.
