AEP Texas Readies for $12M Development

American Electric Power (AEP) acquired land in the San Angelo (Texas) Business & Industrial Park. In December 2017, the company will begin construction of a $12.5-million, 74,000-square-foot facility on the land, which will be the new location of operational facilities for AEP Texas.

AEP’s current West Texas facility at 933 W. 19th St. in San Angelo is too small and not well located, according to AEP Texas’ Fred Hernandez. He told the San Angelo Standard-Times that the majority of the company’s employees travel around the area, and the 747-acre industrial park near U.S. Highways 277 and 67 and east of the city property, will help them avoid traffic congestion.

AEP Texas maintains the electric grid serving more than one million West Texas electricity customers. The company currently employs 85 people at its San Angelo office. Upon the new facility’s completion in September 2018, AEP Texas will add 21 new jobs.
