AEG Proposes $1.2B LA Convention Center Expansion, New DTLA Hotel
Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) has proposed a $1.2-billion expansion of the Los Angeles Convention Center and JW Marriott Hotel in DTLA. The public-private partnership would require city tax incentives, which have already received preliminary support from Mayor Eric Garcetti and the City Councilman for the district.
The plan would expand the facility by as much as 350,000 square feet, which would push total convention center space above 1.2 million square feet, including 250,000 square feet of meeting rooms. The $500-million addition totals roughly 800,000 square feet of contiguous exhibition space.
A separate proposal encompasses a $700-million addition to the JW Marriott Los Angeles L.A. Live hotel. AEG seeks to build a 40-story, 850-room hotel tower just south of the Regal cinemas complex, which would be connected by pedestrian bridges to the existing JW Marriott and the convention center’s West Hall.
AEG hopes to secure construction approvals immediately, in anticipation of completing the work as soon as 2021.
