AECOM Report: Infrastructure Construction Lagging
A new study released by AECOM indicates that 80% of more than 500 infrastructure professionals surveyed worldwide believe that national prosperity is based on civil infrastructure. The industry, however, is not growing fast enough to meet demands. The AECOM report, “The Future of Infrastructure,” is geared toward providing the industry with a better understanding of how infrastructure challenges could be addressed.
So far, according to the results, those challenges aren’t being addressed. Nearly 70% of respondents believe that the industry isn’t evolving fast enough to meet the changing needs. Two out of five major projects run into difficulties, creating delays. One-third of those surveyed felt a lack of public funding continues to hold up new projects, while eight in 10 indicated that “this is a pivotal time for civil infrastructure,” the report said.
