McKinney spending $72M on airport expansion

Added Funding Could Mean Commercial Service for McKinney Airport

McKinney has come up with the money needed to pay for an expansion project the town hopes will allow it to attract commercial passenger service. Community Impact reports over $52 million in funding has been secured for the expansion project to McKinney National Airport.

The 45,000-square-foot passenger service terminal will be added to the east side of McKinney National Airport. The facility will include three gates with the ability to expand to five gates. It will also include a 1,500-spot parking lot, six aircraft parking positions for both commercial and general aviation uses, an aircraft de-icing facility, above-ground fuel storage tanks and other supportive infrastructure.

The terminal and associated infrastructure is expected to cost $75.1 million. The McKinney airport project qualifies and is likely to receive federal funding as well as the money raised locally.

Work on the airport expansion is set to begin in May, and is expected to be completed by July 2026. Commercial passenger service is expected to begin in late 2026, the release states.
