A Place to Stay for VA Families

Fisher House Foundation started construction May 25 on two of its “Fisher House” properties, which provide free temporary lodging to families of service members and veterans receiving medical care at centers run by the military and Veterans Administration.

“This home-away-from-home will be a tremendous comfort for our wounded warriors and their families,” said Dr. Erik Langhoff, director at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center in the Bronx.

The houses will each contain 16 living suites spread over 14,000 square feet. Charitable contributions paid the the $14 million development cost. After they are finished, Fisher House will give the two houses to the Bronx VA. The two new houses will provide a place to stay for nearly 12,000 families a year, saving them up to $3 million.
